When you only have 1-2 hours of uninterrupted time everyday to accomplish pretty much anything (ya know, when your kid is sleeping and you still have two iotas of brain capacity), you are tempted to check a few things off the to-do list: laundry, cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming, paying a few bills, taking a nap because you are exhausted. Sometimes however, you can shutdown the perfectionist and let the chores wait. And when that happens, the creative juices start to flow!

I have had the forms for this sculpture created for MONTHS and I finally broke out the hotplate to get my wax melting. I did a study in the wax process I’m using on this piece a few years ago and plan to use smaller and more amorphous forms this time around. The smells of melting wax, crayon, and the warmth of the process brought me right back to my pre-baby days in the studio, but before motherhood came along, I never could have guessed how much I would laugh when my sweet boy took a look at my artwork.
